I've often heard children say, "There's nothing to do today". I beg to differ. I'd like to inspire you to do something. Anything. Read. Bake. Hike. Fish. Plant. Sail. Climb. Play. Reach. Move. Laugh. Dream; and take time to sit with me on The Old Granite Step.

The off-season amaryllis.

We typically see the amaryllis around the holidays.  This one has bloomed three months late, but perhaps it's fate!  At a time when we need some cheering up, the additional color makes me smile.

It's Spring so Let's Peruse the Seed Catalogues!

Park Seed Company,  Michigan Bulb Company, Henry Fields, Territorial Seed Company, Schrieners and Stark Bros. are catalogs shown here.
Despite the fact that Spring is officially here, we woke up to below freezing temperatures and a layer of snow and ice!  It seemed like the perfect day to sit down with my accumulated seed catalogs and place a few orders.

The Boston Flower & Garden Show

On Tuesday I had the kitchen window open while cleaning the house.  It was fifty-four degrees out and the fresh air was wonderful!  So two short days later I can't believe I'm saying this......it's snowing again!  That's why I'm so grateful we made the trek to Boston yesterday to visit the 2014 Boston Flower & Garden Show.

Happy Valentine's Day

My husband sent these to me today; beautiful.

Romance
by Edgar Allan Poe

Romance, who loves to nod and sing,
With drowsy head and folded wing.
Among the green leaves as they shake
Far down within some shadowy lake,
To me a painted paroquet
Hath been - a most familiar bird -
Taught me my alphabet to say,
To lisp my very earliest word,
While in the wild wood I did lie,
A child - with a most knowing eye.

Of late, eternal condor years
So shake the very heaven on high
With tumult as they thunder by,
I have no time for idle cares
Through gazing on the unquiet sky.
And when an hour with calmer wings
Its down upon my spirit flings -
That little time with lyre and rhyme
To while away - forbidden things!
My heart would feel to be a crime
Unless it trembled with the strings.

Happy Valentine's Day!
