I've often heard children say, "There's nothing to do today". I beg to differ. I'd like to inspire you to do something. Anything. Read. Bake. Hike. Fish. Plant. Sail. Climb. Play. Reach. Move. Laugh. Dream; and take time to sit with me on The Old Granite Step.

A quintessential New England inn from a time gone by.

It's historic New England at its best.  Follow

Route 2 westbound to the delightfully quaint Stockbridge, Massachusetts.  You'll find the Red Lion Inn perched quietly upon a corner.
The Red Lion has been serving patrons since the 1700's.  The aura of past guests still lingers.

The windows of the gift shop draw us in.

The lion greets us.

Although the fireplace in the lobby wasn't needed when we visited, one can only imagine the warmth necessary in the cold winter months.

The resident cats entertain the guests.

In my opinion, this decorative and sly booth in the tavern is the best seat in the house.

Another shop located within the main building offers things you may need while away and a lovely assortment of gifts.

There are seating vignettes such as this one dispersed throughout the property.

Who is this woman of another time?  The curated artwork inspires ones imagination.

The tattered carpet adds character.  Who's feet have tread upon these steps?
I always look up when in an old inn.  Chimneys abound as do fireplaces in the guest rooms.

The teapot collection is fascinating.

A comfortable feeling surrounds us in the lobby.  It says "Welcome."

We must come back in January if not only to stoke the fire.

If you're lucky, you'll hear a guest tinkling the ivories.

If only my pantry was so organized.

An interesting spot to gather with friends.

Magical.

Plenty of space to relax.

A colorful nod to a time gone by.  The old fashioned pansies are a must.

Step into the past and leave your cellphone home.  Enjoy the simplicity.

Can you picture two tired travelers lounging here?  There are haunting rumors....sublime.

Bring a good book.

The dining experience is divine.  No one is rushed here.

It's a porch where we can read, socialize or just sit quietly and enjoy the moment.  We need more of this.
